Physiotherapy

To access physiotherapy services at the school a referral is required from either the child’s consultant or therapist prior to admission to the school.  Following assessment a treatment/management programme will be developed.

Therapy will be provided in a variety of ways dependant upon the child’s needs.  These will include individual treatment, group work and maintenance programmes.  Other methods of treatment/management including postural management, hydrotherapy, gait re education and rebound therapy may be introduced.

Postural management teams have been established to support the daily physical management programmes of children across the school.  These teams consist of staff from school and the therapy department. The postural care needs of each pupil are considered by the teams who then produce a joint postural management charter.  The charter is shared with parents to ensure a collaborative approach to individual pupil programmes.
