Primary (Key Stage 1 - 2)

In the Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 phase of learning the children follow either the Pre-Formal or Semi-Formal Curriculum structure with personalised learning opportunities. Communication, Physical Development and Personal and Social Development are at the core of this learning.  Any child who follows the Formal Curriculum will access the National Curriculum with a personalised approach to their learning.

All children in Key Stages 1 & 2 will be given the opportunity to build on their learning experiences in the EYFS.  The children signposted to the Pre-Formal Curriculum will follow a child led, play based curriculum with focus on Communication, Physical Development and Personal and Social Development.  Intensive Interaction is used consistently to focus on the fundamental areas of communication.  Multi sensory approaches to play, story telling and learning, underpin everything we do.

Assessment of progress is tracked using Routes for Learning.  Children signposted to the Semi-Formal curriculum again have plenty of opportunities to learn through play. They are introduced to Literacy and Numeracy sessions and learning is organised into themed topics.  All children in Key Stages 1 and 2 have the opportunity to swim once a fortnight.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Our ethos within the Foundation Stage can be described as ‘Learning to play and playing to learn.’

Our days are filled with stimulating sensory play experiences along a different theme each term. It can get busy, noisy and messy but it is always good fun!

We work to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum.  We are sensitive to the individual development of each child to ensure that the activities they undertake are suitable for the stage that they have reached.  We aim to stretch our children but not push them beyond their capabilities so they always continue to enjoy learning.

Children’s earliest experiences help to build a secure foundation for learning throughout their school years.  Therefore all our activities are planned to ensure maximum learning takes place throughout the day, whilst ongoing observations are completed to assess learning.

We enjoy a wide variety of activities throughout the week, which are designed to help the children learn new skills, gain confidence and form good relationships with staff and pupils alike.
